What is it?

Care for families when their baby’s life is expected to be brief…

What now?

  • Is my baby suffering?
  • Will it hurt the baby to continue the pregnancy?
  • Will it hurt me to continue the pregnancy?
  • Has termination been suggested?

Perinatal Hospice care at Choices Medical Clinic® will seek to answer your questions and address your fears.

Perinatal Hospice allows for a continuum of supportive care from the time of diagnosis of lethal anomaly until the natural death of the infant. Subsequent follow-up for the parents and family is also made available. The value of life is not measured by its length but in its depth.

Initiating Care

  • You may access our services by physician referral or by self-referral by calling Choices at 316-687-2792 or toll free at 1-800-879-7451.
  • Pertinent medical records should be obtained and forwarded for our review.
  • A free consultation with our medical director will be arranged.
  • All aspects of the diagnosis, the pregnancy and likely outcomes will be addressed.
  • At that time, some specific recommendations can be made for you to consider.

What happens next?

Should you choose to carry your child to term rather than terminate your pregnancy, a plan can be tailor-made, just for you. In cooperation with your physician, you can select a delivery team, location, and participants – even the method of delivery. In some instances, the timing of the birth can be addressed as well to ensure an optimal outcome for mother and baby.

Creating memories that will last:

  • Ultrasounds during the pregnancy
  • Video recordings
  • Cast impressions of hands and feet
  • Snippets of hair
  • Photographs
  • Scrapbook
  • Memory box
  • Involving siblings and grandparents

Compassion, not abandonment.

The biggest fear that may occur during this special time, is the fear of abandonment and isolation – experiencing this difficult time alone.

Rest assured, our staff will support and encourage you in your decision – throughout your entire pregnancy and beyond, if you desire.

Frequent office visits and ultrasound examinations will be made available to you and your family.
